When I left the Navy in 2019, the transition narrative I was handed didn't match reality. The salaries weren't what people promised. The "thousands of jobs waiting" turned out to be a few dozen, and only a handful were a real fit. I wish someone had shot me straight.

It wasn't that there wasn't opportunity. I didn't know where to look — and more importantly, I didn't know how to market myself or tell my story.
